It's now the 3rd day since Yaya Dub has been kidnapped and we're still clueless of her whereabouts. And it's sad to know that there are many people out there feeling that the show is already getting stale due to the events that are transpiring in the Kalyeserye. Some are saying that Eat Bulaga is now only making the show longer due to the fame and ratings they're getting. Others are already getting impatient, not liking how the show is turning out. But there is more to the story than just butterflies, sweet music, and good times. Let me share my take of today's episode and everything that goes along with it.
It is rather grievous to see that Yaya Dub is still in the clutches of the men who kidnapped her. In fact, the sight is so heavy that I felt pain in my heart, being swayed by how Yaya was able to portray the role. Imagine being kidnapped for over 3 days without an ample supply of food and water. No bathing, no people to talk to, and no technology of any form whatsoever. She has mentally prepared herself for the part she'll be playing. We all know that everything is just an act. But what I saw earlier was beyond that. You could feel the sorrow in her eyes; the anxiety of seeing Alden again, or knowing that Lola Nidora is safe. She wanted to get free. She can't do anything in her power to save herself. She's totally helpless, cold, hungry, and dirty. And how she was able to go through everything was just superb. To think that Maine haven't gone through any acting workshops yet her eyes, her tears, her body language, even her hair, clothing, and eating manners, all of them could manifest the difficulty of the situation with no screaming, no uttered words, no intense movements.
That was acting back then during Nora or Vilma's time. Back when the eyes are more than enough to express feelings of love, hate, disappointment, joy, worry, disgust, and so on. Oh and my heart almost shattered of the thought that her allergy's acting up again, making the situation even worse...
Wait... Did I just mention allergy?! From what I am recalling, the only allergy she had was when Frankie's around, when she's seeing his hole-infested face. It could be a clue, but I know not for sure.
There comes a moment in an actor's career, regardless of network, where he or she is placed in shows that serve as a measuring stick for acting skills and creativity. We need not to mention what these shows are since you will be aware of them when you see how an actor plays his or her part in such slots, usually on prime time. Commonly, these are experienced individuals who are up to the challenge of exceeding their expertise, usually stretching their comfort zones and portraying roles that exhaust all of their knowledge in acting. It's an experimentation lab of testing the results of their acting workshops and applying their wit and learning.
But to Maine's case, everything is completely different. She had no workshops, She does not even have a contract on GMA to begin with. She was grabbed by Eat Bulaga due to her popularity as the Dubsmash Queen. True that you can act on Dubsmash, yes. But acting a role where you have to give your all? Definitely not! Some take dubsmashing as a casual form of entertainment, as a time-waster. But to Maine, it's her way of expressing her true self. It's her medium of showing her versatility, not only in memorizing lines, but also controlling her emotions. Dubsmash is a craft to her, an avenue where she can show the different facets of her personality from love, to hate, to anger, to frustration, to any other feeling you could think of. She spends time looking at herself in the mirror. She takes time to rehearse the lines. She visualizes how the portrayal would occur, and how her body, her eyes, her face, her movements would go along every second of the acting. Not anyone would actually take time dubsmashing the way she's doing it. That gave her the title she deserves. It's something that we ought to think and respect.
Yes, I have thought all of these in those 30 minutes; in those moments when many of the viewers found today's episode as boring and distasteful. We need to realize that not all episodes in the shows we are seeing are positive and bright. There would be moments when actors are challenged to play dark roles and gloomy plots, all for the sake of the story and building the momentum that could give benefit to the highlight of the later episodes. It's what you call a build up that gives savor to the best moments. You may think of Yaya crying now or Alden still moping like a little kid on the corner of the wall. But what about the sweet reunion they will have after all these events? Have you not thought that there are always happy endings and that they would be together again after all the hardships and the challenges? The scene would turn out to be better and more colorful than what we saw last Saturday.
And to the rest of the cast, I would like to extend my appreciation for professionally acting your roles despite of the rants you are getting from different viewers. Theirs is an inspiration to go on and be the best that you can be. It is indeed a task to fulfill. It may consume much of your time. It may even drain you for the roles you play. But know that we appreciate every second you spend in making the show work for all your viewers, to the ones that truly love the way you play your part.
When Alden and Maine would see each other again, we will expect something grander than what we saw last Saturday. Just think of the moments they would call each other, even though they are apart. The longing is becoming real. The anxiety can't be put on hold. The pain is growing worse each day. That simple thought of seeing each other one more time will become insanity to the maddening soul. When they see each other again... the world would witness another first in history...
